Heesen Yachts founder Frans Heesen has passed away

Heesen Shipyard Mourns the Loss of Founder Frans Heesen

With heartfelt sorrow, Heesen Yachts has announced the passing of its esteemed founder, Frans Heesen. Frans passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, in his hometown of Oss, leaving behind his beloved wife Petra, his children, and grandchildren. Frans Heesen founded Heesen Yachts in 1978, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential figures in the Dutch yachting industry. Frans’ visionary leadership, unwavering courage, and remarkable talent for recognizing and nurturing potential were instrumental in shaping the success and legacy of Heesen Yachts.

Frans Heesen exemplified the spirit of Dutch courage, making bold and often daring choices that shaped the future of the shipyard, as he led Heesen Yachts through a transformative period of innovation and expansion. One of the most defining moments of his visionary leadership was his decision to take on the ambitious challenge of building the revolutionary yacht OCTOPUSSY, which broke records as the 'world's fastest yacht'. Despite the considerable risks — including the very real possibility of the shipyard’s collapse — Frans' unwavering belief and relentless determination turned OCTOPUSSY into a resounding success. This milestone not only secured Heesen’s place in yachting history but also catapulted the brand onto the global stage.

Frans devoted his life to the shipyard, creating a workplace that felt more like a close-knit family than a traditional business. Even after the company changed hands, the warm, familial culture he nurtured remained deeply rooted. Today, that spirit and the values Frans championed continue to define Heesen’s identity. His legacy has left an enduring imprint not only on the yachting industry but also on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to Frans’ family and friends during this difficult time. His presence will be deeply missed, but his vision and spirit will forever guide Heesen Yachts.

He will be missed but never forgotten.
