Balk Shipyard, a family business with a history spanning approximately 220 years, was founded in the charming town of Elburg. Over the years, the company built, maintained, and renovated ships for the Dutch market, earning the prestigious Royal Seal of Approval in 2002 as a testament to the Dutch Royal Family's confidence in their work.
Due to the land reclaiming of the inland sea in the 1950s, Elburg's harbor became a small inland waters location, necessitating relocation and expansion. In 2004, the decision was made to move to Urk, a town situated directly on open waters. Here, a larger existing shipyard was acquired and transformed into a modern state-of-the-art facility, catering to new build and refit demands on both domestic and international markets.
The yard boasts a team of approximately 60 highly skilled employees, covering all necessary functions and trades to ensure supreme quality products. Renowned in the Netherlands and worldwide as a refit and rebuild yard, the company has been involved in several unique refit projects. Notable references include M/Y Dancing Hare, M/Y Sandalphon, M/Y Bravado, S/Y Copihue, and the new build S/Y Mikhail S. Vorontsov.
For their efforts, knowledge, and expertise, Balk Shipyard has received numerous accolades, notably the World Superyacht Award, which they have been granted almost every year since its inception in 2008.
