De Vries Lentsch sy NOSTROMO has sunk

De Vries Lentsch 27 meter classic sailing yacht NOSTROMO has sunk off the coast of Sri Lanka, after an alleged period of desuetude.

This De Vries Lentsch Custom sailing yacht, boasting teak and mahogany decks, was built in steel in 1951, after an exterior design and naval architecture by Philip L. Rhodes. She was powered by twin 175Hp G.M. diesel engines. Moreover, her contemporary interior provided accommodation across 4 cabins, both for crew and guests.

Remarkably, NOSTROMO was renowned for being owned by former French intelligence officer Hervé Jaubert. Furthermore, in 2018 she was leveraged by Princess Latifa from Dubai to flight the country and her father. NOSTROMO was returned to international waters near the Indian coast by a joint operation in 2018, yet she was allegedly badly damaged and stripped of all her safety gear during the attack. This attack entailed a beating of the crew and an abduction of Princess Latifa, who was brought back to Dubai and is allegedly still prisoner to date.

According to the Lloyds List, NOSTROMO was put up for auction in September 2024, requiring all prospective bidders to deposit $10.000 with the Marshal. Moreover, she was to be sold in her present condition and was reputedly bought by a company carrying out repairs.

Local news reports revealed that NOSTROMO allegedly sank on January 19th 2025. Specifically, rumors say that  NOSTROMO was carrying fuel onboard when the tragedy occurred, and that it is unclear whether measures were arranged to prevent water contamination. Lastly, her captain Hervé Jaubert described the calamity as occurring under suspicious circumstances, and delineated how he feels extreme sadness about seeing his boat being allegedly neglected and sinking like a wreck.
